2013 Album of the Year Countdown - Intro and #10
Ok so, every year once the last release I’ve been anticipating surfaces I put together a top 10 list of my favorite records from the past 12 months. Since the last record I was waiting on showed up today, I feel confident starting to publish this years list as I’m happy with it and satisfied with what I’ve chosen. I’ll post one record a day for the next 10 days along with a short right up on what made that record special along with a preview of choice cuts from that record. DISCLAIMER: This tends to be a fairly eclectic mix of stuff so its best enjoyed with an open mind. So without any further delay:
#10 Fall Out Boy - Save Rock and Roll
This is probably the most polarizing record that made my list but I’ve listened to a ton of records this year and kept coming back to this one in the end and I ultimately believe that its because ITS DIFFERENT. It shows growth, progression and a good bit of gnarly song writing. It doesn’t hurt that Patrick crushes his vocal performances and the Butch Walker has the production sounding huge too. Picked Young Volcanoes because I liked some of the more tongue in cheek lines and the delivery here. Great pop/rock album and definitely a great album for FOB to release. Just not quite sure if it managed to ‘Save Rock and Roll’. This album came out at the right time and this song stuck with my head through a ton of nonsense I had going on at the time.
Best Song(s): Alone Together, Young Volcanoes
Best Lyric: ‘Go on, make it easy. Say I never mattered. Run it up the flagpole’
